König James VI von Schottland erbte den Thron von England in 1603. Obwohl diese "die Vereinigung der Kronen", in der Tat nennt die Kronen von England und Schottland blieben getrennt, bis das Gesetz und Vertrag von Union von 1707 gesellte sich zu ihnen in dem neuen Königreich von Großbritannien.
